National IssuesElectionsInstant Runoff Voting- In order to empower third parties to gain representation and break the two-party hold on elections, we support the passage of Instant Runoff Voting (IRV).
DefenseIraq- leave as conditions merit, recognizing the SOFA agreement
Afghanistan- Make a stand and root out the Taliban with COIN
Defense Contracts- Overpriced, due to the limited numbers of companies participating. We need to reduce our appropriations and cut back on new development. However, we must replace or repair the equipment used in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Shipbuilding- we are divided on this issue. Some say we need to stop building, that they are merely pork projects. Others say we need the ships due to an aging fleet.
EconomyFederal Deficit- cut spending drastically. Government does not need to be doing as much as it tries to do. Much of this is Congressional mandate. Get Congress to roll back it's requirements for spending.
EnergyEnergy Independence- more drilling. Alternative energy sources. Nuclear power.
Nuclear Power- there are advanced designs, like molten salt, small reactors, pebble beds and thorium.
Nuclear waste- We should look a Yucca Mountain and offshore disposal. - Investigate recycling of fuel rods.
Transportation- many ideas here. One idea is to go entirely electric. Not sure if this works. CNG is another idea.
Funding- some want a higher gas tax. Others want to remove incentives from gas companies.
EducationFunding- more money will not help.
Charter Schools- we support this.
Unions- They stop needed changes. They are also a political force to be reckoned with. Action and position unknown.
Competition and Accountability- We need to support these. Vouchers are one possibility.
Social IssuesGay Marriage- we are in favor of establishing gay marriage. Furthermore, some of us feel that the government should not be in the business of deciding marriage. Government should support the establishment of legal contracts, between consenting adults, that allow them to share financial aspects of their lives. Marriage is best left to private organizations.
Adoptions by gay parents- Any loving people who want to adopt a child should be able to do so.
Abortion- Most Whigs are of this opinion. Abortion is a legally available medical procedure, the morality of which is solely the right and responsibility of the parties involved to decide. The Whig party does not seek to remove from the individual the freedom to decide what medical treatment is best for themselves. - Some Whigs are of the opinion that abortion is murder and ought to be illegal.
Term LimitsConstitutional Convention- to implement term limits for US Representatives and Senators.
