The Modern Whig Party is a modernized resurrection of an old American political party, dating from the early to mid 1800s. We are a non-fringe, pragmatic, common-sense party of moderate views, who feel very strongly about returning to those basic principles. Originally started by returning veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan, who were dissatisfied with the policies of the major political parties, the Modern Whig Party has quickly spread into the broader population of moderates in America. We are attracting independents, moderate Republicans and moderate Democrats. We are the third party that the country has been looking for to help break the deadlock of big government and the special interest favoritism we see in state and federal government today.
The Modern Whig Party of Virginia is a small, but growing movement. The process of determining the philosophies that will guide us is mostly over, although we will always revisit these principles. Since different Whigs have differing positions on some issues, as is to be expected with a constituency in the middle, we do not intend to take positions on some specific issues. Instead, we propose to value methodology over ideology. We work toward solutions to problems and not to create new ones. This process of identifying solutions requires an ongoing conversation among all our members, so please visit the Join page and get involved.
