I went through the steps of getting established as a political organization.

I got an EIN from the IRS. We'll need to submit form 1120POL to the IRS next year.

Then I got a business bank account - type of business is non profit. I tried HSBC first, but they suck. They wanted proof of incorporation and such nonsense. Second try was Chevy Chase Bank and it was smooth sailing. We have a checking account, checks and bank card.

Then I filled out the Statement of Organization for the State Board of Elections. I put myself as treasurer for the time being.

Then I got us a PayPal account. This initially went well - I got the Donate button put up on the website. Then PayPal came back and asked me for additional information to prove the company exists. I will give them a voided check, the EIN paperwork and the Statement of Organization. Hopefully that will be enough!
